Just choose their most expensive and it will pay for its place in the army. (Allowing for 3-4 wall breaches).įor me as long a trebuchet is able to kill 50-70% of 1 unit im fine with it. Its the exploding rounds that are creating such a problem and allowing 500+ kills.įor me i would get rid of that shot and the skill would give a bit more ammo and aim instead. You will have trouble to get 100- 200 kills with them. Now Trebuchets with NORMAL SHOTS! are actually fine. They would be smaller and more mobile than a trebuchet, more accurate, and equally effective against units, but without the OP explosive ammunition, a shorter range and do bugger-all damage to walls and gates. This wouldn't mean completely removing artillery from field battles though by the time of the Han Dynasty, they were using these things called "Military Strong Carts" or "Bed Crossbows" as a kind of mobile field artillery, which were basically enormous crossbows mounted on wheeled carts (similar to Roman Scorpion). Somebody mentioned in a similar thread that trebuchets and other heavy siege artillery should instead be removed from field armies, and become siege engines that can only be constructed in sieges (and presumably still be mounted on walls as defensive emplacements for walled settlements).Īlthough I think that's a bit of an extreme solution (and definitely won't be a popular one), I think I'd support the idea. I don't think tweaking their damage against units or walls, or their accuracy, or their mobility, or their ammo types, will really solve the problem because of just how good they are in nearly every situation. Siege artillery has been overpowered in one form or another in every TW game, and they tend to dominate battles to the point of almost breaking them, as the AI will always rush forward if the player has siege artillery. Makes for a poorer gameplay experience IMO, as it essentially removes offensive battles as long as you use artillery. They will charge at you no matter the cost. If you have artillery in your army (or to some extent ranged superiority) you would never have to worry about the AI defending a difficult chokepoint, or minor settlement, or a hill. To mitigate this, instead of nerfing artillery damage against normal troops which would have been the sane choice, CA have doubled down on the bad design and hardcoded the AI to charge at the player as long as player has some artillery. Because they are so overpowered, a player with artillery can annihilate any enemy AI that that decides camp at a strong defensive position. Trebuchets, or artillery in general, cause other issues in TW games. Sadly plenty of players like it and exploit it to no end. Trebuchets have been overpowered in Total War for a long time. Hence Trebuchets were historically used against large stationary objects like walls etc, or large slow moving targets like siege towers, ships etc, but in TW, they are the most potent anti-unit weapon. But soldiers in TW do not have that individual behavior. In reality when a bunch of soldiers will see a giant flaming rock coming at them, they will just move away. There is a good reason they are considered a siege artillery (as opposed to faster but far less destructive projectile weapons like scorpions). Trebuchets should not be so powerful and destructive against normal units. 2K A Total War Saga: Thrones of Britannia.846 A Total War Saga: Fall of the Samurai.Games Workshop Direct add-to-cart Middle-earth Strategy Battle Game Minas Tirith War Machine Resin 28mm 12+ Box Unpainted Miniatures are supplied unpainted and some assembly will be required. They are supplied as 17 separate components, and come with three 25mm round bases.
